Hall of Fame

The first Induction Ceremony of the Pleasant Hill High School took place on August 16, 2024 at Contra Costa Country Club in front of a sold-out crowd of 225 former Rams, family members and friends. The first class consisted of the first Principal Art Bloom, six coaches: Bob McGuire, Hal Briggs, Jimmie Timms, Roger Leonard, Clyde Forrest & Charlene Forrest, 16 athletes and two championship teams, the 1968 “Team of the Decade” Football Team and the 1979 Championship Girls Swimming & Diving Team.

Roger Leonard was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements from the Class of 1959 as a Football, Basketball & Baseball star. He was also inducted as a Coach when he came back to his alma-mater to Coach football with Coach Briggs & Coach Timms. Leonard was also acknowledged for his contributions to the 1968 Championship Football Team.

The first female athlete selected to PHHS Hall of Fame was National Record holder in the ½ mile and mile, Kathy Costello. She also was PHHS’s first ever California State Champion in the mile and ½ mile.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Lisa Custodio introduces Charlene Forrest who is being inducted into the PHHS Hall of Fame. Charlene taught and coached at PHHS including Tennis, Song Girls, and Physical Education. She later taught at College Park High School when PHHS closed down.

Gary Forrest, son of Clyde and Charlene Forrest, presented Clyde Forrest who taught Metal Shop and coached Football and Wrestling. Coach Forrest made his mark in coaching wrestling where PHHS teams were very successful. Coach Forrest was also inducted in the California State Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Daughter of Coach Timms, Tracy Timms accepting the Induction into the Hall of Fame on behalf of her father. Coach Timms coached football and track and taught Physical Education at PHHS and later at Ygnacio Valley High School after PHHS closed.

Bernard Anderson accepted on behalf of his Father-In-Law, Hal Briggs. Coach Briggs coached the Football Team from 1953 - 1976. He was selected Coach of the Year twice and coached the Team of the Decade, the 1968 Championship and undefeated Football Team.

Rob McGuire Jr. accepted the Hall of Fame honor on hehalf on his father, Coach Bob McGuire. Coach McGuire was an outstanding coach and teacher that positively affected many students and athletes at PHHS and later at Cal State University East Bay.

Hall of Fame Committee Member John Buschini inducted both John Raeside and Bob Clark, Class of 1976.

Daughter of the late Art Bloom, Sherry Berryman accepting the induction honor on behalf of her father who was the First Principal at PHHS. Art opened the school and hired the teachers and coaches that made PHHS a special place.

Quarterback on the Championship Football Team, Dick Hansen, gave an inspiring talk about his experience in breaking his neck while playing football and the care he received from Coach Briggs.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Roberta Bruder Chisam inducting Kathy Costello, Class of 1975. Kathy was an all-around athlete, but especially excelled in running including setting National High School records in the 880 & mile. She place first in the California State Meet in both the 880 and mile events.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Paul James inducting Ed Miller, Class of 1971. Ed was outstanding in Football, Basketball, & Track. He held the High Jump and Triple Jump records for PHHS. Later attended Diablo Valley College and set High Jump Record for Junior College at 7 feet. He attended UC Berkeley and was the 1976 NCAA Decathlon Champion.

Al Davis, Class of 1969, accepting his Induction to PHHS Hall of Fame. Al played Football, Wrestling, & Track & Field. He was 1st Team All Defensive Tackle, DVAL & North Coast Champion in Wrestling, and placed 3rd in the Shot Put at the DVAL League Meet. He was Athlete of the Year for 1969. Attended Diablo Valley College and played Football and Wrestled. He later attended Boise State where he achieved All-American Status as Left Offensive Tackle and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.

Classmate and Teamate Rick Abbott inducted Vince Ujdur, Class of 1970 and his Mom, Zee Ujdur was on hand to accept the award. Vince excelled in Football, Basketball, & Baseball. He was All-League in all three sports and was Athlete of the Year for 1970. He later signed a Baseball contract with the Texas Rangers.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Lou Kosta inducting Pat Riley, Class of 1969. Pat led his football team to the League Championship and was named First Team All East Bay. He also played Basketball and Baseball. Played football at Diablo Valley College and later attended Boise State and played Football.

Hall of Fame Committee Member inducting Paul James, Class of 1967. Gene excelled in Football, Wrestling & Track, awarded the White Block. Gene continued at Diablo Valley College in all three sports and was awarded Athlete of the Year in 1969. He attended Fresno State University where he continued Football, Wrestling & Tract and was awarded Athlete of the Year at Fresno State.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Bill Wamosh inducting Tom Foster, Class of 1962. Tom was outstanding in Football & Wrestling. All DVAL as Fullback his Senior year and was DVAL Wrestling Champion at 194 lbs. He was also North Coast Champion and Northern California Champion wrestler.

Roger Foulk accepting his Hall of Fame Induction from his son, Russell. Roger attended Utah State University on an athletic scholarship and played football on the Aggies national ranked team.

Russell Foulk inducted his father, Roger Foulk, Class of 1960. Roger excelled in Football, Wrestling, & Track, including DVAL Champion in the High Hurdles, Shot Put, & Discus, setting school records in each event.

Hall of Fame Committee Member Lisa Custodio inducting Cathy Constanza, Class of 1980. Cathy was an outstanding all-around athlete as she excelled in Basketball, Volleyball, Track, & Softball. Selected First Team All Northern California in Basketball and later starred in Basketball at Sacramento State.

Roger Leonard inducting Tom Larsheid, Class of 1958. Tom was outstanding in Football, Basketball, & Baseball. He was All-League in every sport and later played professional football for the British Columbia Lions.

Rick Egan accepting on behalf of his father Dick Egan, Class of 1955. Dick starred at PHHS in Football, Basketball & Baseball. He excelled in Baseball and later played on the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, and Los Angeles Dodgers as a left-handed pitcher.

Sue Campbell and Steve McMillin accepting on behalf on their father Jim McMillin, Class of 1956. Jim was All-League in Football, Basketball & Baseball and later played football with the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.

Charlene Forrest is inducted in the PHHS Hall of Fame along with her late husband Clyde Forrest.

Coach Bruce Capps introduces the 1979 Girls Championship Swimming & Diving Team. The team won the League Championship as well as they were North Coast Champions.

Lennis Cowell, Class of 1961, inducted for his achievements in Football, Wrestling & Baseball, but excelled in wrestling as this is his 5th Hall of Fame Induction, the others include California Wrestling Hall of Fame, Cal Poly’s Hall of Fame, National Wrestlling Hall of Fame, and Diablo Valley College’s Hall of Fame.

John Raeside & Bob Clark, both of the Class of 1976, inducted into the First Hall of Fame Ceremony for PHHS. Bob excelled in Baseball as a Pitcher, playing Varsity Baseball all four years. Bob was selected as the “All East Bay Player of the Year” in 1976. John was inducted for his all-around athletic abilities in Football, Basketball & Baseball.

Roger Leonard inducted as an athlete (Class of 1959), Football Coach from 1964-1974, & coached the 1968 Championship Football Team.

Kathy Costello McQuirk accepting her Hall of Fame Award for her outstanding Track & Cross Country career at PHHS. California State Meet Champion in the 1/2 Mile and Mile run.

Coach Bruce Capps introduced and gave a summary of the 1979 Championship Girls Swimming & Diving Team that won the league and also went on to win North Coast.

John Raeside, Class of 1976, was inducted for his outstanding all-around athletic abilities in football, basketball & baseball. Selected to the All East Bay First Team in Baseball his Senior year.

Football player Lou Kosta introduced the 1968 Championship Football Team, renowned Sports Newspaper Report Charlie Zeno penned this team the “Team of the Decade” in the DVAL.

Ed Miller, Class of 1971, was inducted for his achievements in Football, Basketball, and Track. Ed holds the High Jump and Triple Jump school records and went on to win the NCAA Decathlon as a UC Berkeley athlete.
